Most of the weekend was consumed with more research/discussion/planning of the upcoming weekend. At this point it appears that the trip to Canada will take place but that it will be scaled back in terms of purpose. We will be going to the older son’s home on/for Thanksgiving. Friday afternoon we will journey with the younger son to parts north, stay overnight, scout the area and return to the older son’s home on Saturday. We will leave early Sunday morning to return here. I do not like to travel on the Sunday after Thanksgiving, but there are few other reasonable options.
The younger son is much more chill than his old man which is sending the latter into fits. I will blame it on Scouting (“Be prepared”).
I am being fairly successful (I think) at keeping my mouth shut and only answering questions and making suggestions when called upon. I think that those of my readers who have raised children will understand my predicament. Those who have not raised children will understand my son’s. *grin* Believe it or not, I was young once and had a father, too. *bigger grin*
One of my genuine concerns (for his safety) revolves around some of the common winter weather patterns that occur between “here” and “there”. Although #2 son did his undergraduate work in the north, it was in New England. Proximity to the coast affects weather there. My son appears to be planning multiple trips to his new area between now and January (when he starts). The route of those trips will take him through western New York, through areas known to be subject to sudden and frequent “lake effect” snowstorms. Ask Bigg.
On other matters…
Mrs. G and I talked a bit about the local incident/discovery on Friday. For the present we have our “work around” plans to avoid impact on our lives here as much as possible. At this point it appears that our presence here beyond the point of her ability to retire is in question. That would be a bit more than two years. (Should the government surprise us with affordable health care, it could happen sooner. I’m not holding my breath.) As I noted in a previous post, there is no reason that we would need to stay here. We are agreed that any new site should be within some proximity to one of our sons. We are not coming up with any specific location that screams “pick me!” Therefore it is possible that we will stay here for the duration.
Well, here we are at the beginning of the week of Thanksgiving. Once again I have that feeling of being in a car on a roller coaster cranking up to a very high peak. At most any time the car will crest and the wild ride will begin that will not settle to normal chaos until January. Hold on to your seats, my friends.
In case I am unable to post until after our adventure this week, I will take this moment to wish you all a very happy and pleasant Thanksgiving.
If I may I would also ask you to consider shopping somewhere else other than Wal-Mart on Friday. (Is anyone else as sick of the bombardment of their ads as I am?)
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

That’s a wrap.
Sending HUGS to all!
