Last evening I attended the showing of Is What Was. It is an experimental/avant-guarde “documentary” (< 30 minutes) about gays at Sachsenhausen concentration camp in World War II. The filmmaker and his student associates were there to introduce the film and to field questions afterwards. The question and answer period was quite interesting. Unfortunately I had to leave before it all ended.
Having been fortunate enough to visit the site of the concentration camp at Dachau in 1971, I could extrapolate the images of Sachsenhausen. The film was not as uncomfortable to watch as I had thought it might be. It did not concentrate on scenes of abuse or torture. It was a look at the life and experience of gays in Germany before and during the war and the relationship to the life and experience of the German soldier of the war.

That’s a wrap.
Sending HUGS to all!
