Thank You!

Tuesday, 18. November 2008

I want to pop into blogland briefly to say thank you to you all for your kind thoughts and messages upon Dave’s death. I very much appreciated each and every comment.

It may seem strange to some that his death affected me so, but, despite all that we had been through – or perhaps because of it, I never stopped loving him and, I think, he, me.

Last Friday evening I had the opportunity to talk by phone with his current partner. He and I got along well. He shared the events of the last days and what is to happen. Dave’s ashes are to be returned to his family in his home state of Massachusetts. I do not know if either of us will be given any further information.

I am doing well in the comfort that Dave’s suffering is at an end.

Thank you all again.

That’s a wrap.

De Profundis Clamavi Ad Te Domine

Rest eternal grant unto him, O Lord
And let light perpetual shine upon him.

“Dave”
26. May 1946 – 14. November 2008

David the King was grievéd and movéd,
He went to his chamber,
His chamber and wept.
And, as he went, he wept and said,
O my son! O my son!
Would to God I had died!
Would to God I had died!
Would to God I had died for thee!
O Absalom, my son, my son!
- “David’s Lamentation” [1778], based on 2 Samuel 18:33 by William Billings (1746-1800)

“Dave” sent me a copy of the following song (“I Don’t Want to Say Goodbye”) from the film Brokeback Mountain after we parted at the beginning of May, 2005. It became “our song”.
